I have personally never been diagnosed with any STD’s in my entire life, and I think it’s very important to teach our children about abstinence. It’s even more important to encourage people to get tested for things like HIV and HPV. When you reach your 30’s, most people have been around the block, so go get tested, and even if someone tests negative for HIV, please be aware they could be on medication that masks their HIV.
African-Americans accounted for 44% of HIV diagnoses, though they comprise 12% of the U.S. population.b
Teaching our boys and girls to abstain from sex is a smart move.
This would be a good point to show how data can be flawed, so I will share a true story with you.
I am certain the pharmacy still has a record of this, and I’d take a lie detector on it.
Several years ago, I went to the pharmacy to get my prescription filled for my acne. I got the prescription home and applied it like crazy. After a few days, I developed a rash, so I headed back to the pharmacy, and it turned out they sent me home with the wrong prescription. The wrong perscription was a herpes medication.
So, they swapped out the wrong one for the correct one. And with that, the problem was solved — at least on paper. However, the reaction from them giving me the wrong prescription lasted much longer.
The main office of the pharmacy called me to apologize because they knew they could get sued.
Now, if you were just looking at the data from the pharmacy, you would not realize there was a hiccup unless they noted that they sent me home with the wrong prescription.
With all the talk about data and using it to assess people, I thought that this would be a great story to share.
Have a great day.
