Poem: Giving Them Stupid

mesmil

Giving Them Stupid

I was that woman

Intelligent

Eloquent

Owner of much of my Universe

Flawless in my verse

Impeccable in my dress

Needing for nothing

Happy about everything

Joyful in my motherhood

but that wasn’t God enough

So then I gave them stupid

Stumbling

Poor

Tired

and needy

Call me stupid

Is that more satisfying?

More gratifying?

Does that make you a wiser man?

A stronger man?

Do my word plays give you joy?

Bring you back to being a boy

Does my neediness grow your own?

Tired yet of being alone?

I gave you stupid

I gave you so much stupid

That I almost let you blame me

For what happened to me

But then I got smart again

Are you happy now?
