Did They Actually Give the Boss the Message? Let’s Talk Applications

I want to share some life experience with you. In the past,  I had applied to work at a hotel over and over again.  With my level of customer service skills and abilities, I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting a callback. Turns out the boss had not received my application.

One day I stopped in, introduced myself and explained when I had applied. Then I asked him to pull my application. He went back and looked for it and he couldn’t find it. Now, this hotel has policy’s regarding their storage of applications. There should have been at least two of them in the back with my name on it, less than 6 months old. He then realized his employees were throwing out good applications before they got to him.

Please be diligent when applying for jobs. It’s OK to do a follow-up. You might just find out that they were throwing your applications in the trash against company policy.

I know a thing or two about finding good candidates because I’ve done contract jobs that focused on hiring and unfortunately there are employees who lack integrity. They are more than willing to sabotage the hiring process.

You can pretty much count on the employees lying to their bosses to try to justify it but the bosses have to be smart enough to know that they are lying. Employees who lie like this are a major liability because they don’t understand that throwing out applications violates the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972.
